Eduardo Secci is pleased to announce the retrospective dedicated to Gio’ Pomodoro, with a critical essay by Sergio Risaliti, in the gallery space in Florence from September 16 to December 23, 2022.
The exhibition - twenty-six years after the last one held in the Sala d’Arme of Palazzo Vecchio - marks the return of the Maestro to the city of Florence. With this first project presented to the audience, Eduardo Secci and the Gio’ Pomodoro Archive start their collaboration, which aims to enhance and promote the artist's work on the Italian and international scene.
The occasion - focused on the diffusion of the artistic practice of one of the greatest protagonists of Twentieth Century sculpture - is part of the program of the Florence Art Week from September 16 to 24, 2022.
Between the end of the 1950s and the 1960s, Gio’ Pomodoro (1930, Orciano di Pesaro - 2002, Milan, Italy) is a central figure of international sculpture for his inventions, experimentations, and ability to combine theory and practice.
The idea of the series Tensioni first and Folle later - with shapes produced by the arrangement of sheets solidified with liquid plaster and cast in bronze, but also made with polyester and marble - is an action that precedes any experiment of the Anti-Form movement. Similarly, the large-scale works Soli conceived for public spaces of the urban landscape represent a “civil” concept of sculpture that is still unsurpassed today.
The exhibition walkthrough video will be online at www.eduardosecci.com/exhibitions.
